An energy service company (ESCO) is a commercial or non-profit business providing a broad range of energy solutions including designs and implementation of energy savings projects, retrofitting, energy conservation, energy infrastructure outsourcing, power generation and energy supply, and risk management.
A statutory body established under the Energy Commission Act 2001, Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST) or the Energy Commission is responsible for regulating the energy sector, specifically the electricity and piped gas supply industries, in Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah.

Under MAESCO, Xenergi is part of the networking and sharing of ideas among the organizations in the Energy Efficiency business. Xenergi also receives Bench-marking reports for different industries in RE/EE efforts, training & opportunities to train organisations and government agencies. Xenergi also receives invitations to seminars and talks with member discounts if fees are charged and get updates on policies, incentives and programs from different government agencies regarding RE/EE endeavors.
MAESCO (Malaysian Association of Energy Services Companies) was formed and registered with the Registrar of Societies in September 2000 under the registration name of “Pertubuhan Syarikat Syarikat Perkhidmatan Tenaga Malaysia”. It was incorporated during the implementation of the Malaysian Industrial Energy Efficiency Improvement Project (MIEEIP) by the Malaysian Government’s implementation agency.
